Homeschooling During the Holiday Chaos

This post is sponsored by Red Baron but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

The moment November 1st hits it is seems like all momentum for school flies out the window. The girls are eagerly and not so patiently waiting for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Things begin to get chaotic. Decorating, meal planning, holiday shopping, and family visits all become distractions from what needs to be accomplished for school.

Last year we pretty much took the whole month of December off because things got too chaotic and then we got real sick. So this year I did not want that to happen. I wanted to make sure we did not lose our momentum going into the new year! Here are a few tips on how we will still homeschool during the holiday chaos.

Lessen the load

The beauty of homeschooling is that you get to set your own schedule! I know what to expect months in advance so I can plan accordingly. With the many family gatherings and also the surprise visits, I like to make sure our school schedule is a little lighter than usual. I want to make sure the girls are still getting some learning in but do not want to overwhelm them since our time is so busy during these months.

Get Creative

This is my favorite part of the holidays! The crafts! I have an arsenal of crafts that we do for the holiday season. I love to find crafts that not only are fun but also give me the ability to create a school lesson around it. We love to make paper snowflakes every year and it makes for the perfect opportunity to learn a few things too! We learn about how snowflakes are formed, why every snowflake is different, and other cool facts about snowflakes. So when looking and planning out your homeschool curriculum find fun crafts and activities to do that can also be turned into a lesson!

Make meal time easy

With homeschooling and then all the holiday chaos, the last thing I want to do is make long elaborate meals. I want to be able to continue visiting with family or continue decorating the cookies. So the best meal during holiday chaos is PIZZA! Red Baron pizza is our go to for crazy and hectic days! I am able to pop the pizza in the oven, set the timer, and get back to our holiday fun! I do not have to worry about wrapping up our homeschooling activity in order to spend hours in the kitchen. Pizza is such a lifesaver in this house! No matter what anyone is doing, once I yell “Pizza” everyone is sitting at the table.
