The Most Delicious Sugar Cookie Recipe

Happy Valentine’s Day! What a beautiful day we had today. We started the day off with flowers and bags of goodies from Josh. The girls were so excited to see a single pink rose for each of them from their daddy. The girls twisted my arm to skip school so that they could play with their polly pockets they received. So the day was slow going and sometimes those turn out to be the very best days. While Finnegan napped we were able to get outdoors and play in the two feet of snow that we have. I am eagerly awaiting spring!

We also decided to make sugar cookies for our special treat for Valentine’s day. Now many times I am the mom that goes the simple and easy route and just buy the roll of sugar cookie mix at the grocery store. However sometimes it is fun to get in the kitchen and bake. Plus I think the cookies taste so much better when you mix them yourself! I love this sugar cookie recipe. I wrote it down long, long ago from someone or something that I came across. It is by far the best tasting recipe I have tried. I love how this recipe calls for almond extract. Game changer I think!

Ingredients:

1 cup salted butter

1 cup granulated white sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

1 egg

2 teaspoons baking powder

3 cups all purpose flour

Instructions:

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees

2.Mix together butter and sugar until smooth

3.Beat in extracts and egg

4.In a separate bowl combine baking powder and flour. Add dry ingredients slowly to the wet ones. It will become difficult to mix the dough with the mixer. Turn out the dough onto the countertop and mix with hands.

5.With this dough you DO NOT HAVE TO CHILL!

6.Roll out dough on floured surface and cut.

7.Bake at 350 for 8 minutes. Let cool on cookie sheet then transfer to cooling rack.

For Icing

Start with 2 cups of powdered sugar. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 tablespoon melted butter. Stir in one teaspoon of milk at a time until you get your desired consistency!

The kids thoroughly enjoyed making the cookies from scratch and then mixing the icings to their desired colors! So flipping delicious and yes I totally stole a cookie for myself!
