It is once again October the season of changing weather, falling leaves, pumpkins, and all things spooky. It is our favorite time of year. We have so many fun family traditions that happen throughout the month but sometimes it leaves us feeling completely drained. Fun traditions should not feel chaotic.
One fall tradition is Halloween. As parents we are easily overwhelmed by the festivities of Halloween night. The making (or buying) of the costumes, the fixing of the hair and putting on the makeup, getting the candy for other trick or treaters, and of course the preparation of dinner. However there is a way to fight the chaos and enjoy the Halloween traditions! Here are some ways to fight the chaos.
Lay out all items needed for costume
How many times have something gone missing from one of your kids’ costume? A missing crown can bring a princess to tears while a missing mask can bring your little hulk to rage. It can all go downhill very fast. Eliminate this chaos by laying out everything needed for the costume. Gathering all the hair accessories and makeup will also be beneficial in getting organized for the big day. I do not know how many times we go to walk out the door and Madelyn cannot find her matching headband. This instantly causes anxiety and makes for a more hectic rush to get out the door. So lay everything out that you would need for each child for the big night.
Be prepared for dinner
A quick and easy meal to prepare is Red Baron pizza. This is every parents secret weapon. The night is already hectic so why worry about prepping a big meal. Pop in a pizza or two, set the timer, and help get the kiddos ready in their costumes. Red Baron is always our go to for busy nights like this. The girls and now even Finnegan love the brick oven pepperoni pizza with its crispy crust and robust sauce. When all the kids enjoy a meal you know it is good! Red Baron has been helping parents like me for decades avoid dinnertime chaos. So on days like Halloween, look no further than pizza for dinner!
Leave work early.
If possible try to leave work a little early on Halloween. I remember growing up my parents getting home with just enough time to turn right around to take us kids out. It was stressful and felt very rushed. Even 10 to 15 minutes can make a difference when it comes to alleviating the chaos. This will give you some extra time to really take in the joy and anticipation your kids have for the night ahead.
