Books on My Nightstand | August

Summer has not been my time for reading. As much as I love to grab my book and coffee and head to the deck, it is rather difficult to do when your 19 month old wakes up so early. Then by nightfall I am so exhausted from all the days activities that I just want to crash. So finding time to read has been a difficult the last few months. However the last few days I have made a commitment with myself to read at least 15 minutes a day. Sounds so simple right? It actually has been working out so well. I set my alarm, sit down, and take that small, little fraction of my day to full immerse myself in a good book.

So what am I currently reading?

Books on My Nightstand

The Husband’s Secret

Have you read anything by Liane Moriarty? If you have not you need to run to the store and buy either this book or any of the books by her. This book is a page turner and makes it difficult to put down. The book follows the story of three women whose lives become connected once one of them discovers a shattering secret. At this time I just found the secret and oh my… I was left shocked and beyond curious to know how this is all going to play out.

For the Children’s Sake

As a homeschooling mama I am working on reading more on the subject and how I can become a better teacher for my children. As a homeschooler I tend to fall into the Charlotte Mason approach and I discuss it in a little more detail here. In this book the author speaks of her own story and how she was introduced to Charlotte Mason and her teachings. Then the author takes you on a journey of Charlotte’s educational philosophy. It is beautifully written and aides in creating your homeschooling vision.

The Magnolia Story

I know, I know I am one of those people. You know, the people that have fallen victim to the Joanna and Chip franchise. It’s ok. I have no problem admitting it! This book gives readers and fans a detailed look of their life together. It tells of their love, their adventures in life, and dreaming big to accomplish what is their life today.

Love Sonnets

I have always been a huge fan of poetry. I even wrote some angst teenage poetry back in my day. But it wasn’t until I got older that I started to read poetry about love. These sonnets written by Elizabeth Barrett Browning display the love, sincerity, and devotion she had to her husband. Many are familiar with sonnet 43 “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.” But within this book there are so many more stories of passion and gratitude. It is a beautiful book to read and re-read again.

“Keep reading. It’s one of the most marvelous adventures that anyone can have.”
