What better way to kick off the month of March then with a reading challenge! I am so thankful that all my children are enthusiastic about reading. Many times I will even find them reading solo without any prodding. I thought it would be fun to set up a month long challenge for them to test their limits and see what they can accomplish.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss
In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, March has been designated as national reading month. No matter what age, reading has many benefits for your health and education. Reading has the ability to teach vocabulary, empathy, better writing skills, memory improvement, and the list goes on. From the moment each one of my children were born I have been reading to them. From moments curled on the couch to bedtime routines; reading has been a staple in our lives.
I wanted to create a little challenge for my children in order to celebrate this wonderful month of reading. A challenge to further ignite their love for reading and to find fun ways to read. The challenge is simple. Read 20 minutes a day while doing what the day says! And what happens when they accomplish the challenge? Parents choice! Have a fun day planned, have a pizza party, buy new books! Whatever encourages your children to read this month!
